Assessment & Moderation

With the end of the statutory KS1 assessments in 2024, many senior leaders and maths leaders asked if the moderation training would continue as it was seen as valuable training and always resulted in quality curriculum development. For this reason, the following sessions will take place in 2026.

KS1		 The morning session is an opportunity for Year 2 teachers to further develop their knowledge of the KS1 expectations, understand the pitch required at each of the standards: WT, EXS, GDS, validate judgements with colleagues within their own schools and other schools and have expert guidance and support on hand. Previously, evaluations showed teachers would appreciate a whole day so the afternoon session is an optional add-on for morning participants to spend more time on moderation agreements and forward planning. Years 1, 3, 4
& 5		 Rather than rely on ad-hoc data inputting and test outcomes, this session looks at national curriculum statements and gives opportunities for teachers to compare outcomes within and across schools to standardise expectations and know what to look for at each of the standards: WT, EXS, GDS, all with expert guidance and support on hand. Thurs. 30.04.26

    Instead of running generic training for ECTs, I recommend that ECTs join my other training, such as the Teaching Year Group Specific Mathematics so that they can immerse themselves in their specific year group curriculum. In previous years, ECTs have said how they prefer the opportunity to focus on their own year group and the relevant subject knowledge and pedagogy. ECTs could also attend one of the shorter sessions on offer.
